Shadow work is a transformative process of exploring and integrating the unconscious aspects of our personality, often referred to as the "shadow." Coined by Swiss psychiatrist Carl Jung, the term "shadow" represents the hidden and repressed parts of ourselves that we may deny, reject, or feel uncomfortable acknowledging.
The shadow consists of our unhealed wounds, suppressed emotions, negative beliefs, and aspects of our personality that we deem unacceptable or socially unacceptable. It encompasses the traits, desires, and impulses that we have disowned or disassociated from our conscious awareness.
Engaging in shadow work involves shining a light on these hidden aspects and bringing them into conscious awareness, allowing for self-reflection, healing, and integration.
This is a step towards healthier intimacy.
By delving into the shadow, we can uncover the root causes of our patterns, triggers, and self-sabotaging behaviours. It provides an opportunity to heal emotional wounds, release limiting beliefs, and transform negative patterns that hinder our personal growth and relationships.
